In The Fire Light 'It is not a physical meal it is a supernatural meal, but it begins in the physical and brings us into the supernatural.'
First we recognize that, like the saying goes, "We bring nothing to the table" spiritually speaking but there are some things that will help when preparing.
After hundreds of CommunionFire experiences we have learned a few things.
QUIETNESS: First and foremost you want to create a peaceful and quiet atmosphere. It's best to minimize the possibility of distractions to maximize the personal experience of each person. For example: Resist the urge to have any music playing and here's why. The Holy Spirit is gently and peacefully speaking to each person during communion. One person may be hearing a song or the whisper of the Holy Spirit while another may be hearing a gentle wind or sound of the ocean.
PREPARE: the bread and the wine so that it is ready for distribution to avoid any interruption during Communion. If travelling, for example we use a canvas bag that has cups, juice and bread.
BREAD: There are no rules on what type of bread you may use. Use whatever is available. Leavened or unleavened bread is not an issue of the New Covenant. We know missionaries who used yams and water and others who used potatoes and goats milk.
FRUIT OF THE VINE: There are no rules on using wine, grape juice of a red juice drink. Use what is available.
THE CUP: We like to use cups poured from the same container. When we are in the field with the homeless or in the coffeehouse we use smallish plastic cups. Each person gets a cup with a fingertip of 'wine'. Sometimes when in faith gatherings there are those little plastic cups and the trays.
THE TABLE: He leads us to many tables. (Sometimes there isn't an actual table). A wood bench will do or the rail of the boardwalk. We've had communion on the hood of a car, on the phone and while Skyping. The Good Shepherd leads us to places for communion. We call those places His Table.
THE COMMUNION PROMISE: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whosoever eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day." John 6:53-54
