Table One: Opening The Door To Share the Table of Our Heart With Jesus
It was January 17, 1971 the night the Colts beat Dallas in the Super Bowl. That night I also declared that I was turning my life over to Jesus. In Manlius Bible church, in New York it was the Sunday evening Song & Testimony meeting. The night before I was instructed by Campus Crusade for Christ folks about the The 4 Spiritual Laws. So, I believed in my heart and made confession with my mouth. I stood and made my declaration then "lo and behold" - the Lord heard me!
At that moment it was like I was attached to an electric outlet. My body began to shake and quiver, I started sweat and shiver. My friend Holly held my hand and smiled. I said nervously, "Please let go, I don't know what's happening to me." It was a powerful encounter! In the following days my life changed. My conversation and outlook changed. My new life with Jesus had begin.
At the end of the service several people came up to me. They smiled and almost glistened with some sort of "Jesus Happiness" They embraced me and congratulated me for accepting Jesus. I felt overwhelming love coming from these people. I was just visiting, and none of them knew me, but they felt like family!
The next morning I woke up and saw a fresh snow had blanketed everything. I did not know the Bible but I heard these words as I looked out the window. It was like a whisper. 'Though your sins are like scarlet they are now as white as this snow.' I felt pure and clean. I think I smiled a lot that morning.
He loved me first. He knocked at the door of my heart and life. He enters and shares a salvation meal with us. He makes Himself real and promises to never leave or forsake us. For some its a 'shocking' experience for others a quiet one. For some its lunch for some a seven course dinner but for all its the beginning of the eternal love feast, eternal life.
Revelation 3:20 (with some of the Greek meanings)
He stands at the doorway of your heart and if anyone hears my voice
(as a shepherd's cry or call/like a shepherd calling His sheep)
and opens the door, (to give entrance to the soul)
I will come in to him and dine with him (Sharing His most intimate and blissful contact)
and he with Me. (Messiah's feast, symbolizing salvation in the kingdom of heaven)
It is the doorway that leads to the table in your heart. He gently knocks and speaks.
"Hello. Its Jesus. I am looking for my lost sheep. Is anyone there? Can you hear my voice?"
He opens our ears to hear Him. At that moment, we know He is there.
For the first time we hear His voice. We sense His love. We are curious. We open the door! There He is, the Shepherd of our soul. He smiles, and we let Him in. He goes to the 'Table of our Heart' and sits down. "Come now", He says, "Where sin once pulsed through your blood I am here to give you my pure blood. Your past, present and future sin is forgiven and forgotten. Your sin is covered like fresh snowfall. The the relationship begins.
Once you invite the Savior to sit down in the center of your life to dine with you He invites you to follow Him like a shepherd all the days of your life. (click on the picture)
But where will He be leading you? That is in the next blog.
