In the Fire Light: "But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." Luke 14:13
Luke 14 is filled with references to different types of tables and meals.
Jesus is at the house of a well to do Pharisee and notices that the guests are jostling to get the best seat at the table. He tells them a story. “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited." He goes on to say, "For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
The Lord's Table is different. It is hosted by the Servant King. At His Table every seat is the best seat! Jesus describes His approach about wedding feasts, luncheons, dinners and large banquets. He distinguishes between the manners and attitude of the worldly tables against what His Table looks like. It really comes down to the types of people who scamper for power and influence in the World and the people who end up at His table.
Jesus says a certain man was hosting a large banquet for many people and He sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, "Come, for everything is now ready. But they all alike began to make excuses." One says, "I bought a field." Another says, "I bought 5 oxen." And another said, "I just got married." In a season fraught with buying until we are in debt is it any wonder that the Table of the Lord is not well attended by those who were 'busy'.
So he said to his servants the same thing Jesus told them earlier. ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’ They came back and said that there was still room. “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’ ”
ALL are invited. Few come who are invited because their lifestyle is absorbed by self-interest, greed and power through social networking. Few come unless they are among the needy. They come because Jesus sends us to them. Those in CommunionFire fellowship, go as His representatives to assist those in need to the Table. Because there is still room at His Table, He sends us to compel the marginalized by sharing His love and mercy to fill His house.
Many are invited but few respond. In the world they clamor to the table for title and position. At Jesus Table every seat is the best seat in the house, no matter who you are! Look for Jesus when you come to His Table!
