In a wonderful article in the 2014 January edition of Believers Voice of Victory page 13-15 Kenneth Copeland makes an amazing observation about the effect of daily communion in the life of Smith Wigglesworth. Over the past year my wife and I have been scouring the internet for those who have encountered the power of communion on a daily basis. They are far and few between. Here is the witness of Smith Wigglesworth.
"The real change in Smith Wigglesworth did not come until he started getting up every day at 4 a.m. to take Communion. Like clock work , he would begin each day by remembering his covenant with Almighty God by taking the bread and the cup. Every day he lived under the influence of that covenant. And every day he became more and more bold—until finally, he became one of the boldest men of God in history!"
This event took place after years and years of hiding from his call to preach and do the works that Jesus did. Once you have opened the door of your heart to receive Jesus and He dines with you at your table your journey begins to follow Him all the days of your life. Brother Wigglesworth walked in the light of Communion the rest of his days and the Lord confirmed his witness with mighty signs and wonders!
Picking up from yesterday we have opened the door and Jesus comes to dine with us. From our heart He leads us into His heart. He invites us to follow Him as the Good Shepherd. A Pastor asked me the other day if I connected Psalm 23 with communion. I replied, "How can you not?" The first message I gave concerning CommunionFire was a Spirit-led message on Psalm 23. I was as amazed at the message as much as those who were there that night. Here is an excerpt of that message.
"The Shepherd begins the journey by letting you know you have no needs. He is your supply. Then He makes you lie down in green pastures besides fresh, spring-fed pools. The Shepherd wants you restored and strong enough to follow Him in His paths of righteousness. He wants to share His story with you along the way. He wants you to know all His names: The Healer, Provider, Everlasting Father, King of Peace, Elohim, the Light of the World and the Lion of Judah! He is your way, your truth and your life.
As you follow Him you are hardly aware that He is leading as you go through the valley of the shadow of death because He is with you. He uses His rod to drive away the enemy who would destroy you. He gently nudges you in the right direction with His staff. He is constantly comforting you as He leads you so that you will be totally dependent upon Him. He wants to be your source of life. But where is He leading? What destination does the creator of heaven and earth have for you?
He has prepared a table before you in the presence of your enemies. He leads you there. He has prepared the table and reserved a place for you. You bring nothing to the table and as it turns out, He is the meal. Our whole life is following Jesus from one table to another that He prepares for us. When we come to His table His Body is the bread and His Blood is the wine. He promises in John 6 that when you eat this meal you have eternal life! Anyone! He also says if you don't eat this meal you have no life in you! Life or no life its your choice. You can't buy a ticket to get a reservation here and there is nothing you can do to merit this meal. It is the gift of God. At His Table is salvation, baptism in the Spirit, healing, deliverance, provision, gifts and calling. Things come alive in the Word of God like never before. It opens up like a garden.
How often do we eat a temporal meal? 3 squares a day? How often do you feast on the presence of the Lord each day? Since experiencing CommunionFire my wife and I have encountered as many as 9 tables in one day! We could feel the presence of the Lord bristling inside us and others could sense it too. At three different tables that day people were healed. Many had their very first encounter with Jesus even though they had 'known' Him for years. We have seen more signs and wonders of the Holy Spirit in the past 8 months than in the past 40+ years as Jesus followers combined. When was the last time you had a one on one encounter with the Lord Jesus? Do you want to? You can every day!
Isn't that why we in our own strength study the Word until we are bleary-eyed, become prayer warriors, worship our hearts out and serve others with all our might? Communion is His provision for this. It is encountering Jesus through His grace. When we simply 'do this' (Communion) we discover He is there waiting for us. He lives to share Himself with us. Through Communion we experience His real presence in the CommunionFire.
We believe something remarkable and new is happening. It is something never recorded in Church history that we can find. Although we believe it was CommunionFire that sustained the early church as they broke bread from house to house and ate meals together every day.
CommunionFire = The Blessed Bread and Wine --> The Real Encounter with Jesus. Jesus said to "Do this" as often as you come together. Handle and share the bread and handle and share the cup of the New Covenant. Eat the Body and Drink the Blood. Do you? Do we? He also said "Do this in remembrance of me" and then preached in John 14-16 that He had to leave to send the Holy Spirit - 5 Times! Why? It was a most important message.
He said when the Holy Spirit is come He will be in you:
- To lead you into all truth (Shepherd you in the paths of righteousness),
- Bring all things to your remembrance whatever I have said (the Logos shares the bread of life and the wine of the Spirit at the table He has prepared)
- To show you things to come (anoints your head with oil and your cup overflows)
My wife and I follow the same plan Smith Wigglesworth had. We start every morning with Communion together. Some days we discover other tables He leads us to - on the streets, in restaurants, coffehouses, hospitals... we never know but we are ready! We carry Bread, Cups and 'Wine' in a carry bag at all times.
