Tonight at the Murrells Inlet Gathering of CommunionFire Ronnie LaMena shared that when we broke bread JESUS shared, “I will defend you always!” She shared this was comforting and gave her the reassurance that He is always looking after us. And then she heard the song “You are My God” by John Foley S.J. In the sharing of the cup she just responded to the Lord’s promise to defend her with an overflowing heart of thanksgiving. So please click on the link and sing along or just close your eyes and let the music wash over you with waves of reassurance.
For younger readers John Foley was an instrument that the Lord used to help set the tone for a new liturgical worship that swept around the world and part of the music that set the tone for generations to come. If you have Christian Grandparents or Parents who were part of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the 1970s this song was something that brought them great joy in worship, at the Lord’s Table in Communion or at home after praying for you! Enjoy!
Better yet, click the link - give thanks as you have a small piece of bread and taste of wine. Feast on His presence. Close your eyes and rest in the security and love only Jesus brings.
Refrain
For you are my God; you alone are my joy.
Defend me, O Lord
Verse One
You give marvelous comrades to me:
the faithful who dwell in Your land.
Those who choose alien gods
have chosen an alien band. Refrain
Verse Two
You are my portion and cup;
It is You that I claim for my prize.
Your heritage is my delight,
the lot you have given to me. Refrain
Verse Three
Glad are my heart and my soul;
Securely my body will rest.
For you will not leave me for dead,
Nor lead your beloved astray. Refrain
Verse Four
You show me the path for my life;
In your presence the fullness of joy.
To be at your right hand forever
For me would be happiness always. Refrain
