In The Fire Light: "But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die." John 6:50
Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry... I am the bread that came down from heaven.”
I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
“How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
"Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
14 times in 24 verses Jesus says He is the bread of life that came down from heaven and that by eating this bread, His flesh, we have life, life in us, eternal life and that He will raise us up at the last day!
Jesus says this bread is His flesh that He will give for the life of the world! At this point many turn away from following Him. “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it? Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?" From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. "You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
How hard is this saying even today? Let me ask you, when was the last time you had Communion? Does it offend you? Is it too hard to do?
Its amazing how much can happen to keep us from a simple 5 minute activity of prayerfully sharing a bite size piece of bread and taste of wine to start our day at Jesus' Table. The first issue is the "want to". Then it's "the doing". (No text messages, no phone calls, no checking Fb, no checking on the status of...) The 'doing' takes focus and determination without interruption!
What makes this easy for us is that we can't wait to encounter Jesus each day! We feed on the bread, His Body, His Flesh and then something happens! He is there waiting for us. As we have mentioned many times in other posts when Jesus blessed and broke the bread in Emmaus the eyes of Cleopas and Mary were 'opened' and they 'recognized' Him. Our natural eyes are open only to the temporal and blind to Jesus. When we eat the bread, our spiritual eyes are opened and He is there. The bread is torn and shared and as we eat we look for Jesus. He is there and never leaves us or forsakes us.
Alone, with another or others - have Communion and when you eat the bread look for Jesus. He is there. When you experience CommunionFire you will want to come to the Lord's Table every day! Discover the Miracle of CommunionFire and you will feast on the Bread of Life!
